Unfortunately because of the way WordPress's image resizing and media library framework is designed, you can only use images uploaded to WordPress and not external URLs. Not sure but maybe there are plugins that could help with this...
I don't want to Re-Open this ticket, but I wanted to give my input. I did a lot of research on "Featured Image from URL" type plugins in order to reduce overhead, bandwidth, space, etc. The best one that I've found is this:https://epicplugins.com/external-url-link-to-featured-images/It DOES COST $9.99 (I think I paid $14.99) but is well worth it. It gives you the option to either use the featured image from the url, or use it and upload to your media. Just my input...
Great, thanks so much for your input - that is always much appreciated around here! Hopefully this helps the OP and/or anyone else who has this same issue - thanks again!
thx, but i can't use this plugin - the flavour theme don't use the
function ;( will sooner or later have to change the theme ...
Yes, the Flavor theme does use this function. See the functions/theme.php file line 447 for example.
is it possible to support me to install the plugin ?
or can u say me what i have to change in the themes ?
I have tested and tried the plugin out for myself using the Flavor theme. There is no need to change anything whatsoever in the theme. Just purchase, download the plugin, and then either FTP or install the plugin via the Wordpress backend in the "Install/Upload Plugin"
Thanks so much for confirming that you got this plugin working, I appreciate it!
i have test the plugin. when i use the "external url to featured image" the image shows only on mainpage and not on single post.
is it possible to use the featured image on singleposts too ?
I am fairly certain that your featured image will show inside of the post as well, but there is some tweaking to be done in the theme settings. I'm not entirely sure of which section (it also depends if it's a regular post or an article post in a mini-site), but if you go to Appearance->Theme Options then it should be in there somewhere. Once again, it depends if it's a regular post or an article post for a particular mini-site.Regards,Jerimiah
i have post a new article as an regular article post - but no image shown on single page
and i can't find any options @ Theme-Options ... :(
