Alternate Theme recommendation

My web host has informed me that I have been going over allotted CPU usage since I started using Flavor last Nov. This is a quote: "On a single visit tracked over 89 hits, and php averages around a 1.8 - 2 second execution time, for a website with caching and very low plugin use this is very high. The traffic for the domain is steady around 1000 hits an hour, with the average php execution time being so high this has an obvious negative effect toward containing the resource consumption." I now have 30 days to: 1. Switch to dedicated hosting service (expensive) 2. Switch to a new theme 3. "Talk to theme creator about optimizing the theme" - their words not mine. 4. Find a new host. Can you recommend another one of your themes that won't abuse their CPU or worse case scenario - recommend a webhost who doesn't track CPU. I'm also curious as to their claim of my domain getting thousands of hits per hour even though my Jetpack logs show less than 500 views per day. Thanks

Yeah not sure what they mean about 1000 hits an hour - I bet your ears perked up on that thinking you had way more users than you actually have :)

But I can see how this might be an issue since the theme is pretty intensive depending on how many minisites you have and what kind of hosting resources you have. I rewrote my framework for my newest theme called Explicit for faster performance, so if you'd like to switch to that theme I'm pretty sure you won't run into these issues any more. I wouldn't mind giving you a discount on Explicit if you'd like to think about switching...

Well, I have 4 mini-sites but 3 are rarely used - at least compared to the primary video game site.  Actually 95% of our daily content is just regular POSTs and not ARTICLES.  Thanks for the generous offer on Explicit.   I checked out the theme and my only concern there is that theme looks a lot like several of our competitor websites and I am really trying to set myself apart, both visually and with content.   I'm going to try a few more optimization tricks and if those don't work I will likely take you up on Explicit.    Are there any issues with migrating from Flavor to Explicit.   I only have 135 articles at this point, most of which are in a single mini-site.

    Thanks again.

Sure thing, just let me know. You shouldn't run into any problems migrating your site. I have written a migration guide in the Explicit documentation which explains specifics. You can see it here if you want to take a look: http://www.industrialthemes.com/explicit/support/documentation/#migrating

Question.  When my host refers to 1000s of hits per hour are they perhaps talking about asset hits rather than page views?  And if so, would leaving my browser open and running my site 24/7 create such "traffic"?   Not sure if the feature and top 10 slider is constantly loading images on THEIR end or out of my own browser cache.

I've gone over my March logs and VIEWS have never exceeded 500 on any given day.   i'm updating the site off and on all day so I just leave it open in my browser for easy access.  Hate to think just having it running is creating all their "server stress".

and finally - do you have any new themes on the horizon.  The more I look at Explicit the more I think it's just not for me.

I wonder if they are referring to database queries, because that is definitely likely - there are hundreds that happen when one user accesses the site depending on how many different areas they access and buttons they click (sorting, paging) etc.

I'm working on a new theme but it's going to be a while before it's released - still only on the design phase...
