Hello, I can't seem to insert the carousel as a shortcode. I am setting it up but I can't get the images to show. I wrote the image path in the Content box but still nothing, all I get are some warnings. You have a video tutorial about shortcodes but it sops just when you are starting to set up the carousel. Thank you! PS: Amazing, amazing theme, but with an extremely poor documentation! A theme this complex should have a complex documentation and this would also save you time in answering tickets.

You should watch the screencasts - they visually show you how to do tons of things that isn't specifically written down in the documentation. Here's a snippet directly from my site to generate the carousel so you can view exactly how it's done:

    [carousel arrows="display" buttons="display" caption="display"]
    [panel title="This is the title of this panel" description="You can put a caption description here as well."]<img src="http://www.industrialthemes.com/flavor/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/woman3-1024x708.jpg" alt="woman3" width="1024" height="708" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-101" />[/panel]
    [panel title="Second panel" description="More description here"]<img src="http://www.industrialthemes.com/flavor/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/woman1-1024x708.jpg" alt="woman1" width="1024" height="708" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-99" />[/panel]
    [panel title="You can make as many panels as you want" description="With the magic of the theme's shortcode generator."]<img src="http://www.industrialthemes.com/flavor/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/wine-1024x708.jpg" alt="wine" width="1024" height="708" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-98" />[/panel]
    [/carousel]

I did watch the screencasts and the screencast that presents the use of shortcodes stops exactly when you are starting to present how to use the carousel :) And even so, there are only a few screencasts and for a theme as complex as this one they should be a lot more :)

But I got it now, thank you!

It still doesn't work. I did just like you said and I receive the following code for each image I inserted:

Warning: Illegal string offset 'title' in /home/abstudio/public_html/noname/wp-content/themes/flavor/functions/shortcodes/carousel.php on line 131

Warning: Illegal string offset 'description' in /home/abstudio/public_html/noname/wp-content/themes/flavor/functions/shortcodes/carousel.php on line 132

This is the code that I used:

    [carousel arrows="display" buttons="display"]
    [panel]<img src="http://www.noname.ab-studio.ro/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/1.jpg" alt="mese de tenis" width="640" height="480" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-98"/>[/panel]
    [panel]<img src="/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/20.jpg" alt="mese de tenis" width="640" height="480" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-98"/>[/panel]
    [panel]<img src="/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/23.jpg" alt="mese de tenis" width="640" height="480" class="alignnone size-large wp-image-98"/>[/panel][/carousel]

There must be an issue when a title is not specified. Try putting a title in each panel just to see if that fixes and please let me know if that works, thanks.

I tried filling out both title and description and still no luck, although I don't get warnings anymore. I also tried using both relative and absolute links to the photos but all that displays on frontend is this:

    <img src=”http://www.noname.ab-studio.ro/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/1.jpg” width=”640px″ height=”480px″ alt=”466″ class=”alignnone size-large”/>

instead of the actual photo. The photo is on the server right here: http://www.noname.ab-studio.ro/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/1.jpg so the path to the image is correct.

So everything that I insert in the [panel] shortcode doesn't get parsed, it just displays as regular text.

Oh wait, I should have mentioned... you need to insert this into your Text view, not your Visual view. Sorry for not being more clear there.

  • Bogdan replied

Yes, the text editor was the problem, it is working now, thank you :)
